On January 7 it was reported by several news outlets that 12 people were shot to death by terrorists in the Charlie Hebdo Headquarters in France. Among those victims included six journalists and two police officers. Eleven people were also injured in the Paris shootings.

The French term Je suis Charlie which means I am Charlie is a slogan that honors the victims of Charlie Hebdo. As a result to the shootings in France, a hashtag #jesuischarlie was created to show solidarity to their victims.

Hashtag #charliehebdo was also created to build a platform for discussions about the story. The hashtag received close to 3.2 million tweets. They also have a Facebook page.

Rallies were also held in places like San Francisco, Seattle and Manhattan honoring the deaths of the twelve victims. What happened in France is a definite tragedy but what about the deadly victims of Nigeria?

According to Yahoo news, people on social media are ranting about how the Paris shooting is getting so much attention while over 2000 people are dead in Nigeria.

Analyst Max Abrahmus tweeted a comment saying how shameful it is that more than 2000 people who were killed in Nigeria gets no media coverage. He calls it one of Boko Haram's biggest massacres.

In early January CNN reported that from January 3 to January 7 Islamic militants entered 16 northern Nigerian villages in trucks, armored vehicles and motorcycles, and opened fire, killing over 2000 people. They also destroyed 3700 homes and other buildings.

The reasons for the killings was to force sticker Sharia laws across Nigeria, according to the Islamic militia. Those residents who ran into the bushes were shot to death instantly. Some even hid in their homes where they burned while they were still breathing. Others manages to escape to Cameroon and Chad.

Satellite images show the attack by Boko Haram. Their leader Abubakar Shekau has accepted responsibility for the killings in Nigeria. He posted a video on YouTube saying the recent killings is just the beginning and what they have witnessed is just the tip of the iceberg. He said more deaths are on the way.

Shekau added that they are the ones who fought the people of Boga, and they have killed them with such a killing as Allah commanded them in the book.Harem has reportedly been terrorizing northern Nigeria since 2009. From attacking law enforcement, schools, places of worship and residents to bombing government agencies and kidnapping.

In 1994 from April 7 to July 15, nearly 1 million people were killed by a political group called AKAZO as part of the Rwandan Genocide. The New York Times reported that the Nigerian army also attacked Boga in 2013 where at least 200 people were reportedly killed.

To bring media attention to the killings in Nigeria, a hashtag campaign @prayforNigeria was created via Twitter. One Twitter user asked if everyone could take some time out of their day to pray for the people of Nigeria.

The recent Nigeria massacre is such a devastating tragedy. It is just one of the many massacres that raises a major concern to how it is international leaders of the government run their country!
